First off, apologies for the title of this blog post. This week was a bit manic. I’ve spent a lot of time gyming and preparing for my trip to New Zealand at the end of the month on top of everything else, I’ve found that trying to continue my current learning plan was a bit much. I’m still working on a routine that works for me and the Makers Pre-Course work starts soon so I hope I’ll have something down pretty soon.

Stand up meeting (progress from last week)

These will be much shorter than they were in the last 4 posts. I reached 35% on typing club, 63% on Algebra I maths on Khan Academy and I didn’t code as much as I would have liked. Easter weekend wasn’t a great help either for productivity.

Trip to New Zealand

At the end of the month, I’m heading off to New Zealand for a couple of weeks for my graduation. Last year I had my graduation for my undergraduate degree, but I was still at uni for my honors year (which in NZ, is considered a postgraduate degree). Nothing will change too much fro last year, I get to wear a different regalia (same color, no fake fur!) and I’ll also get my degree grade read out to about 200 people like it matters. In the UK, you get a class (grade) associated with your undergraduate degree (example, BA Upper-second class or 2.1). In NZ, you have a G.P.A with your undergraduate degree, but you don’t get a class associated with your degree, unless you do a honors year. That’s when the classes come into the picture.

I was awarded a first class honors degree. I’ve never been so happy to get a good grade in my life. It involved many late nights and lots of lonely times, but it was so satisfying getting that result. Throughout my education, I have been cursed with teachers who have constantly doubted my ability and just wanted to put me down. I wanted to get this grade just so I could have the satisfaction of putting it up on my LinkedIn page. I really hope that those fuckwits who bullied me during high school (teachers and students alike) look at that and crawl a little.

I’m really looking forward to this trip because it will be the first time that I’ll be going to NZ purely for holiday reasons. Over the past 6 years going back and forth, I was really there just for work or study so I never really got the chance to see the country as a tourist (Which gives me a good chance to blow my Instagram likes up to the max!). I’ll try and continue to blog throughout my travels, so I’ll update this when I can.

Watching the Tigers

Last week, I went to Twickenham with the old man to watch Leicester Tigers play Bath. When I was in high school, Dad and I had season tickets at Leicester, so when I wasn’t playing rugby myself, I’d go up with him all the way to Leicester to watch them play. Last week was the first time in 6 years that I’ve watched them live (Thanks to Sky Sports for losing the TV rights!).

It was fun! We didn’t win, but it was great to be in a live crowd again, downing some beers and watching the game! I’m hoping to do it more often next season with the Tigers. The stadium has changed a lot since I was last there, so it’s on the bucket list.

Future writing plans

I hope to write some future posts based on my time at school and university and how to deal with certain types of people based on my real life experiences. I have been both lucky and cursed to meet some extraordinary people on both sides of the planet . I was thinking of writing each post based on a certain character which will combine a few real life people into one. I won’t be naming anyone, but so far I have around 4 characters in mind. I’ll publish this on both my website and my medium page.

I should also start to share my coding knowledge as I learn along. Ruby is quite well documented online, but it helps reinforce my learning, so I’ll be looking to do that in the future as well.

Goals for this week

So that’s a plan then. I want to write at least 3 articles this week on Ruby material. A nice simple manageable goal that I hope to smash and share by the end of the week.

Health wise, I’m working on my fitness in the gym in preparation for the trip. I’m also going to pack on the veggies just to keep the immune system up and the weight down as the weather changes.

I’m also hoping to grow and expand the bucket list. I can’t wait to start earning some fucking money again so that these dreams become a reality.
